NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella has revealed his predictions for the video game industry going into the holiday season for 2018. According to him, the industry has seen a 15% growth in hardware this year and he expects the Nintendo Switch to be the best-selling console of the holiday season. Piscatella attributes this to the hype surrounding Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Pokemon Let's Go: Pikachu and Eevee.
Despite Piscatella's strong predictions for the Nintendo Switch, he didn't list either of those games in his TOp 10 Sellers of 2018 predictions. Here's a peek at the games Piscatella says will perform best in the Q4 2018.
Piscatella's Q4 2018 Top Ten Games Predictions
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
- Battlefield V
- NBA 2K19
- Far Cry 5
- Madden NFL 19
- Fallout 76
- God of War
- Monster Hunter: World
- Marve's Spider-Man
Piscatella predicts that all three current generation consoles will generate at least four million units sold in 2018. He also believes that total sales across all console platforms will exceed 17.5 million units for 2018, the highest console sales in the United States since 2018.
Nintendo has yet to showcase its entire autumn line-up, but I think it's silly that Pokemon and Smash aren't on that prediction list anywhere. Sure some of the other games have had more than a year to generate sales, but I think this analyst is vastly underestimating the amount of sales that a series like Pokemon can drive for the console.
